A temporal question is any question, which contains a temporal expression, a temporal signal, or whose answer is of temporal nature.
KB & Reference Date
Freebase, which is a large collaborative semantic knowledge graph. We restrict the data in the demo to the factual part of Freebase, and exclude any meta relations used by Freebase for its own bookkeeping.
Since Freebase shut down its services on August 31, 2016, we use 2016-08-31 as the reference date for relative temporal expressions. Questions referring to the present are to be answered as if it was on August 31, 2016.
Our system mainly consists of four parts: (i) Detect if the question is temporal; (ii) Decompose the question into simpler sub-questions with
some form of rewriting; (iii) Obtain candidate answers and dates for temporal constraints from a KB-QA system; (iv) Apply constraint-based
reasoning on the candidates to produce final answers. For details, please refer to our paper.
